“I had a great experience. Lindsay was friendly, professional and managed to relieve a lot of pain. She managed to get my shoulder moving properly, something that hadn't happened in 25 years! I'll be going back, highly recommended.’

Deep Tissue Massage.

Deep Tissue massage is for people wanting a firmer deeper touch. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.

Deep tissue massage can provide many benefits for various conditions, including injury, and chronic pain.

Practitioners may use their forearms, elbows, fingertips and knuckles as well as their hands in order to break-up adhesions. These are bands of rigid tissue, that can cause pain and inflammation, and restrict movement and circulation in muscle tissue. Practitioners will use a range of different techniques including myofascia release and trigger point work.

Deep tissue massage works to realign the different layers of tissue, treating the tendons, ligaments and fascia (the protective layer of tissues which surrounds the bones, joints and muscles) as well as the muscles to release tension and provide relief.

Deep tissue doesn’t have to be painful. At certain points in the treatment most people do experience a little discomfort. That’s to be expected when the pressure is deep and direct on hard working or injured areas. Scar tissue is being loosened and muscles lengthened, knots are being undone and sub-layers of muscle moved back into the right place. Breathing through the tension can be helpful when especially tight areas are tackled. Your therapist will guide you through this. It’s important to communicate with your therapist, which areas are tender and if the work becomes too strong, they can easily adjust the pressure to suit you. Some clients may need multiple treatments to feel the full benefits of deep tissue work.

The benefits of deep tissue massage can include,

  • • Pain relief: Whether you’re struggling with a sports injury, living with plantar fasciitis, or have a chronic condition such as sciatica or fibromyalgia, deep tissue massage can bring pain relief. Evidence shows that massage is a powerful pain reliever.
    • Healing: The increased blood flow stimulated by the massage works to help reduce inflammation and promote faster healing of injuries.
    • Lowers blood pressure: Studies have shown that massage can help to lower your blood pressure.
    • Improved flexibility: Deep tissue massage can improve the range of movement in tight muscles, allowing for better performance and safer workouts.
    • Relaxation: Massage is a wellbeing wonder, and deep tissue massage has the same relaxing benefits. The massage boosts the body’s release of feel-good hormones like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins ensuring you feel blissfully relaxed.
    • Aids sleep: As well as helping you sleep better due to pain relief, a deep tissue massage can have a soporific effect later on due to the natural injection of serotonin your body receives.
    • Break-up scar tissue: If you have large or notable scars, a deep tissue massage will help to release the tension created by the scar, working fascia loose and promoting greater flexibility in the area.

Deep tissue massage can have incredible effects in increasing mobility and reducing chronic pain.
